NFL Playoffs: Hey, Jay Cutler, if you are legitimately hurt and cannot go back into the game, do everybody a favor and at least look injured on the sidelines. If you truly did tear your MCL, crutches would've gone a long way to keeping people quiet in their criticism of you after the game. The Jets waited too long to realize they were in the AFC title game, because had they played the first half with the energy and emotion as they showed in the second half, they'd be heading to Dallas to face the Green Bay Packers.
NBA Basketball: The Knicks got soundly beaten on Friday night by the best team in the NBA, the San Antonio Spurs, they followed that by losing a heartbreaker in Oklahoma City thanks to a fadaway three at the buzzer from Kevin Durant. Honestly, has there ever been a skinnier player in NBA history than Durant. He is a legi 6'10" and probably weighs 200 pounds when fully dressed. It's amazing! The 'bockers have lost six in-a-row for the second time this season, and with each loss, it becomes clear how much they need Carmelo Anthony. Raymond Felton should not be the guy taking the big shots down the stretch.
Hockey: Evgeni Nabokov was claimed off of waivers by the New York Islanders after being signed by the Detroit Red Wings, and in one of the more classless moves in recent sports history, Nabokov, according to the Associated Press, hung up on Isles general manager Garth Snow. Nabokov said he has nothing against the Islanders organization, but that as this point in his career, he wants to help a team win in the playoffs. Because he started the season in Russia, NHL rules stipulate that he must clear waivers before joining with the Red Wings, and since the Isles claimed him, it will be interesting to see if he reports and then is traded, or just decides to sit out the rest of this season since he clearly has no interest in playing for the Islanders.
Baseball: The Tampa Bay Rays signed veterans Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon to contracts. Damon will probably end up as the everyday left fielder, while ManRam should slide into the DH spot. I guess there is little risk with these two signings since Manny is getting only $2 million and Damon will receive slightly over $5 million, but if the idea that these two players are going to put butts in the seats was the main reason, that's asinine. A couple of years ago when Manny was traded from the Boston Red Sox to the Los Angeles Dodgers, he was still a top talent and a big draw. But now he is an oft-injured designated hitter who was suspended for performance enhancers, a few years removed from his prime. If Manny can stay healthy, he'll still hit close to .300 and will get on base at an above-average clip, but he is a slugger, one of the best ever, and if he only hits 10 homers, that'll be a huge disappointment.
